Learn Finnish with Drops

Hyvää päivää! That’s “good day” in Finnish and just one of the thousands of words and phrases you can learn with the latest addition to the Drops family of languages.

Finnish is the 34th language offered in Drops, coming after Samoan and Maori released earlier this year.

About the Finnish Language

Did you know that there are fewer Finnish speakers than there are people living in Finland? While Finnish is one of the 24 official languages of the EU, there are only about 5 million speakers worldwide. We think it’s time to change that.

Finnish has one of the longest words in the world--lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas (“airplane jet turbine engine auxiliary mechanic non-commissioned officer student”)--though it isn’t commonly used. And one of the oldest examples of Finnish writing that exists is a spell from the 1200s. And many fans heavy of metal music (or metallimusiikki) choose to learn the language because the genre is so popular in Finland and many songs are written in the language.
