September 5, 2018 — Drops today revealed growth figures for the first time, hitting five million downloads, up from two million six months ago. This makes it the fastest-growing language app at scale in the world.
To help even more people around the world discover this new way to learn a language, Drops has appointed Drew Banks as chief customer officer, who was most recently Head of International at Prezi.
5M download milestone
Drops combines engaging word games with beautiful design. It has developed a cult following and has doubled in size to five million downloads in just six months.
The short, visual games make language learning a fun part of your daily routine and not a chore, making it easy to learn one or more of 30 languages. Although fun and simple, the beautifully designed app is built off years of research into how to help you learn more effectively and easily.
“On its surface Drops is a addictively fun word game, but underneath is sophisticated, pedagogic depth that helps you quickly learn a new language,” said Daniel Farkas, CEO and co-founder, Drops.
Appointment of Drew Banks as Chief Customer Officer
Drew Banks joins Drops as chief customer officer following his time as head of international Prezi, where he helped establish its presence in the US market and expand globally.
“I've been trying to learn Spanish for years and have used all the major language apps at one time or another. So when Daniel and Mark reached out and I gave Drops a try, I knew its potential immediately..” said Banks.
“Although I was blissfully retired, I couldn't pass up such an opportunity to help them reach their obvious growth potential.
“Drops is an ideal product for me. It combines my cultural wanderlust and my love of visual communication. Not to mention the thrill of working with a great team to globally scale a high-growth start-up.” said Banks.
Between 2011 and 2015, Drew Banks took Prezi from one million to over 70 million users around the world. Banks brings tremendous visual communication experience from his time at MIT, SGI, and Prezi.
“Drew’s background and experience, his core belief in the power of visual learning, and his passion for other cultures and languages are completely aligned with why Mark and I built Drops in the first place,” said Farkas.
“We’re psyched to have Drew on board as we continue to build new features and help more language learners around the world.”
