Halloween Movies in Different Languages

While Halloween used to be a time to celebrate the end of the harvesting season, we now enjoy it as the time to enjoy the spookier and sillier things in life, and embrace the spirit of trick or treat.

Ready to start embracing spooky season with Drops? Watch one of the Halloween movies below in your learning language!

1. Hocus Pocus

Since Hocus Pocus 2 was just released this year, we couldn’t resist putting this first on the list. Hocus Pocus was released in 1993, and the old school effects are definitely part of its charm. It’s the perfect movie to curl up in front of with a hot beverage.

Find some of the vocabulary from Hocus Pocus like cat, witch, and zombie in the Drops Magic & Fantasy or Halloween topics!

2. The Poltergeist

If the first one had you scoffing and saying “kids stuff”, then The Poltergeist is for you. This movie came out in 1982, proving that the 80s could shell out even scarier things than bright patterns and big hair.

Learn how to say the chillingly infamous “they’re here”phrase in 45+ languages!

3. Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires)

Filmed near Hamburg in 1967, the Dance of the Vampires has since become a popular musical. The scariest part? It’s filmed entirely in German.

Luckily, Drops helps make learning German a little less scary.

4. The Master’s Sun

K-drama with a touch of horror? Yes please! Get your fill of drama and ghosts with this South-Korean film.

Learn some K-drama phrases with Drops in preparation!

5. Kwaidan (Ghost Story)

Japanese horror, or J-horror takes it to the next level. If you’re into gore, Tetsuo is for you. Dive into a series of ghost stories based on Japanese folklore for a cultural experience that’s bound to leave you shaking in your boots.

Brush up on your Japanese Halloween vocab with Drops before you watch!

That’s our list of recommendations. We hope they help you get in the Halloween and language learning mood. If you want a next-level language learning experience, try watching with both the audio AND subtitles in your target learning language.

"Love my fun language learning and practice with daily Drops sessions, and monthly Challenges to participate in, and quiz mode to test contextual learning - brilliant! So much thought, consideration and inclusivity has gone into the design and function of this app, I can't praise it highly enough."

Lee-Anne Fox

"Great little learning app! I've learned at least 5-10 new words in Spanish in my first 5 minutes. Easy to pick up and thorough."

Simon Griffiths

"Great language learning app! It helps you get daily words done in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend using drops to learn whatever language you want to learn."

Colin Seladones

"What an amazing app! I’ve tried several apps for language learning and I cannot recommend Drops enough. I don’t know how a short Drops session can teach me as much as 1 hour+ of focused use of other apps, it’s like magic."

Merindel

"Amazing language learning tool. Excellent app for increasing vocabulary in your foreign language of choice. Useful for beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners. The repetition of the words makes them much easier to remember, and without the hassle of making your own flash cards. I have used Drops for two years now and have seen great results."

"Less than a week in but using this alone with the popular one babbel working on German. When using just one app I got bored, babbel is not as fun. So using both at once actually let's my adhd do its thing but I still focused since I can switch easily between both apps and work in different areas. Also I like the quick little sessions makes me feel like I actually did something."

Diana Morris

"So engaging. I speak Spanish well, but often forget words in conversation that I know I should know. This game is fun and quickly brings back vocabulary I may have put in the back of my brain after not using it for awhile. Case in point: I spent 11 years in construction, then went back to teaching in English and/or Spanish depending on the teacher/student"
